in
HAWTHORNE PARK

What started as an MC gig for Cafe Con Pan (Coffee and Bread) leader, Rick Rodriguez, turned into a Latin Jazz band with an expansive list of musicians with over 200 years of experience. Rodriguez was MCing the musical entertainment portion of the world’s biggest Hispanic motor sports event, Pan Am Nationals (2007), when Atco Raceway owner suggested Rodriguez put an official band together. It wasn’t long after that when Rodriguez called up some friends and had 20+ musicians to sub in for any upcoming gigs, with a core group of four, always willing to add special guests. Within the core group, they have band leader Rick Rodriguez (percussion), Hector Rios (percussion), Bill Murray (wind synthesizer) and Jimmy Lopez (keyboard/ director). Achievements consist of working with many household names, such as; Patti LaBelle, Lou Rawls, Marc Anthony, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Isidro Infante and many more. The Cafe Con Pan Latin Jazz Band plays music of tropical sounds, with African, Cuban, and American Jazz influences. Although the band has a core genre of Latin Jazz, they love to include rock, Salsa, classical music and other genres into their playlist.

Friends of Hawthorne Park
is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining Hawthorne Park. We take care of planting, weeding, and other gardening tasks and host "love your park" clean-up days several times a year. In addition to preservation and beautification, we also produce free events for the community. Over the past few years we have presented live jazz concerts, movie nights, Shakespeare performances, yoga, and arts fairs. These events are funded by grants along with community and local business donations. We welcome participation by anyone in the community.
